Barcelona, 24 March 2026 - As part of their commitment to promoting equal opportunities and social inclusion, TRAM and Alstom have taken part in Fundación Exit’s Coach Project, an initiative that aims to prevent early school leaving and support young people on their path towards the labour market.
During February and March, sixteen volunteers from TRAM and Alstom mentored sixteen students aged 16 to 21 enrolled in Automotive and Electricity Initial Training and Integration Programmes (PFI) at the Salesianos de Sarrià Institute in Barcelona. The students, who had not obtained the Spanish Compulsory Secondary Education certificate (ESO), have taken part in a programme aimed at boosting their confidence, expanding their skill set and encouraging them to remain engaged with education after completing their PFI studies.
The activity was held at TRAM’s depots in Sant Joan Despí, where young participants had the chance to discover how the tram system operates through guided visits to key areas including the control centre, offices and Alstom’s maintenance workshop. They also took part in activities led by the Human Resources team and individual mentoring sessions. Throughout the programme, professionals from TRAM and Alstom shared their own experiences and offered practical guidance to help the students identify their strengths, set goals and gain a clearer understanding of workplace expectations.
The Coach Project
The Coach Project, run by Fundación Exit, seeks to reduce Spain’s early school leaving rate, which currently stands at 12.8% among young people aged 18 to 24. The model combines career guidance, mentoring and direct contact with professionals to increase motivation and help participants map out a training or career path aligned with their interests. According to the foundation, 80% of young people who take part decide to continue studying thanks to the support they receive.
During the current academic year, the project has been carried out simultaneously with around twenty other companies that form part of the “Board 2030” group, an ecosystem committed to making Barcelona a fairer, more sustainable and more inclusive city. TRAM is one of its active members.
