  • The production of the 500th train of the Omneo Régio2N platform marks a historic milestone in one of the longest-running series in the French rail industry

  • It demonstrates Alstom’s ability to produce large-scale series with a high level of reliability

  • To date, 567 trains from the Omneo Régio2N platform have been ordered in ten French regions, demonstrating the confidence of these regions in Alstom’s ability to deliver over the long term.

11 June 2026 – Alstom, global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, celebrated the production of the 500th train of its Omneo Régio2N platform at its Crespin site in the Hauts-de-France region. The Omneo Régio2N train is a modular and innovative solution that meets the requirements of French regions and the expectations of operators and transport authorities, thanks to its wide range of configuration options.

“With this 500th trainset of the contract, we are reaching a significant milestone. It confirms the quality and reliability of our product, as well as the Crespin site’s ability to produce at a sustained pace. For over ten years, the teams have supported the ramp-up to reach a production level that now allows us to deliver on a large scale, whilst maintaining high standards.”

Frédéric Wiscart President of Alstom France, Belgium and Luxembourg

“The Omneo Régio2N contract, signed with SNCF Voyageurs, provides for the manufacture of up to 860 trains,” noted Frédéric Wiscart, President of Alstom France, Belgium and Luxembourg. “With this 500th trainset of the contract, we are reaching a significant milestone. It confirms the quality and reliability of our product, as well as the Crespin site’s ability to produce at a sustained pace. For over ten years, the teams have supported the ramp-up to reach a production level that now allows us to deliver on a large scale, whilst maintaining high standards. The Omneo project is emblematic for Alstom’s Crespin site, where the teams are fully committed and continue to improve our industrial practices. This ability to produce sustainably is a key asset in supporting the French regions’ mobility needs. I would like to congratulate all the teams involved in reaching this milestone!”

To date, 567 trains from the Omneo Régio2N platform have been ordered in ten of the 13 French regions, with a recent order for five additional trains from SNCF Voyageurs for Ile-de-France Mobilités and an order for four additional trains for the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. These repeat orders demonstrate the organising authorities’ confidence in Alstom’s ability to deliver trains reliably, over the long term. Once all 567 trains have been delivered, this series will be one of the longest in recent French history.

A modular platform designed to meet the needs of French regions

The Omneo Régio2N platform has been designed to meet the needs of passengers and transport authorities. It is available in several lengths, ranging from 81 m to 135 m, and in various configurations: suburban, regional and even Premium trains for intercity services. The trainsets are configurable to best suit regional needs: choice of colour schemes, first- and second-class layouts, the addition of bicycle or luggage storage areas, CCTV and on-board internet are all features that can be customised.

The architecture of the Omneo Régio2N train, comprising alternating single- and double-deck cars, combines capacity, accessibility and comfort, and adapts to the variety of routes and passengers’ needs. The single-deck cars make it easier for passengers, including those with reduced mobility, to board, thanks to level access and wide doors. Omneo Régio2N trains also feature a ‘boa’ layout, allowing passengers to move easily from one car to another.

A more comfortable and environmentally friendly train

The Omneo Régio2N train has been designed to enhance passenger comfort: double glazing, air conditioning and underfloor heating ensure optimal comfort in both winter and summer. The large windows increase natural light during the day and offer better views of the outside. The width of the cars provides more space on board for passengers and makes it easier to move around the train thanks to wider aisles.

Thanks to lightweight materials, the weight per passenger has been reduced by around 15% compared to previous-generation double-deck trains. The use of new aerodynamic solutions, high-efficiency engines and intelligent air conditioning management also help to reduce energy consumption. Finally, the train offers a 95% recyclability rate.

A commercial success

A landmark project for Alstom’s Crespin site

The Alstom site in Crespin, in the Hauts-de-France region, has been responsible for the design, manufacture, assembly and certification of the Omneo Régio2N trains since they entered service in 2014. Today, two-thirds of the Crespin site’s activity is dedicated to this project, which employs 450 team members at the Crespin site (and over 550 across France).

The Omneo Régio2N project highlights the expertise of Alstom’s teams in the Hauts-de-France region and has an impact on the entire French industrial sector. It generates numerous direct, indirect and induced jobs among Alstom’s suppliers, not only in the Hauts-de-France region but also throughout France and Europe. Around 300 suppliers are involved in the manufacture of the Régio2N.

The Omneo Régio2N train is one of only two trains to have been awarded the ‘Origine France Garantie’ label.
