Covering all market demands

Our electrification offering encompasses the entire rail-based transport system, including metro, tramway, and mainline and high-speed rail, catering to all market demands. From designing and engineering services to production, installation, and testing, Alstom offers a comprehensive range of electrification solutions. Our expertise covers the entire spectrum of overhead line equipment, catenary systems, power supply systems, substations, feeders, and cabling, operating within a voltage range of 600V DC to 2x25 kV AC. Our feeding systems capabilities are perpetually improving, thanks to continuous R&D and innovation that have led to pioneering breakthroughs such as the APS™  catenaryless solution, the SRS™  static ground-based charging system for trams and electric buses, and the Hesop™ advanced reversible substation.

Alstom's electrification teams are well-equipped to serve our clients in all four stages of a project's lifecycle: engineering, procurement, construction, and maintenance. We have a deep understanding of suppliers across the world, and our robust framework agreements ensure that our clients receive the best value for their investments. Our construction teams have gained valuable project management experience on four continents, combining flexible resources with local partnerships to consistently achieve timely and cost-effective delivery. 

In addition to our extensive network of external suppliers and partnerships, Alstom has significant in-house design and manufacturing assets for railway electrification.

    High performance feeding system in Florence, Italy

    In 2024, Alstom signed a €50M contract with the Municipality of Florence for tram Line 4.2. The project includes track, ROCS catenary system, substations, and lighting, with an option for Line 4.1.

  • Recovering braking energy in Hannover, Germany

    Recovering braking energy in Hannover, Germany

    Hanover chose Hesop™ to recover braking energy and improve energy efficiency. This project is part of the GUW+ program for smart substations. A 750 V, 2 MW, 50 Hz HESOP unit was installed to optimize network performance.

  • Ground feeding system in Barcelona, Spain

    Ground feeding system in Barcelona, Spain

    In 2024, Alstom completed the first phase of electrifying Barcelona’s Diagonal Avenue. The project connects two tram lines using the APS ground-level power supply system over 3.9 km, enhancing urban mobility and network connectivity.
