Since 2007, the Foundation has funded over 360 projects to improve living conditions in local communities around the world
20 March 2026 – The Alstom Foundation has announced the 34 global projects that will be supported and financed in the coming months, chosen from among all those proposed by its employees. More than 260 applications were received and evaluated, a high number that demonstrates the commitment of Alstom people to supporting local communities. Among the selected projects is the Italian initiative promoted by Fondazione Pangea, which aims to support women in vulnerable situations on their path toward economic independence, social and professional inclusion, and dignity.
"Once again this year, the Alstom Foundation has chosen to support a project by Fondazione Pangea, confirming the strength and effectiveness of the initiatives developed over time to support vulnerable women."
The project, active in Rome, Matera, and Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto (ME), aims to strengthen the economic independence of 100 women through personalized pathways for employment and social inclusion. This is supported by an integrated network of services, such as shelters and anti-violence centers, migrant help desks, and employment support activities, managed by Pangea through a holistic, multi-level approach.
"Once again this year, the Alstom Foundation has chosen to support a project by Fondazione Pangea, confirming the strength and effectiveness of the initiatives developed over time to support vulnerable women," said Monica Tomaselli, Innovation and Partnership Director of Alstom Italy. "This renewed trust highlights the value of the work carried out and the positive impact generated locally, reinforcing a collaboration focused on promoting women’s empowerment and economic security as essential tools for independence and autonomy. The initiative is part of Alstom’s broader commitment to inclusion and equal opportunities, including awareness-raising and prevention activities against all forms of violence."
“The project addresses the urgent need to break the cycle of labor exclusion and economic dependence for women living in vulnerable situations, whether due to experiencing some form of violence or because their migratory background leaves them trapped in a limbo that leads to persistent impoverishment” says Simona Lanzoni, Vice President of the Pangea Foundation. “Continuing the work Pangea has built over the past five years facilitates access to active labor policies, provides professional experience and skills development, and ultimately helps women secure the long-awaited employment contract. I want to emphasize that stable employment is not only essential for economic security but also serves as a driver of empowerment, helping women build self-esteem and independence. These factors transform their outlook on life, restore dignity, and support reintegration and active participation in the community. In this way, urgent social challenges such as gender-based violence, economic exclusion, and the integration of all women, migrant and non-migrant alike, are addressed, turning individual stories into a broader strategy for inclusion and social cohesion.”
Founded in 2007, the Alstom Foundation annually supports and funds projects proposed by employees, who choose to help local NGOs and non-profit organizations improve living conditions in the communities where the company operates. Initiatives focus on four priority areas: mobility, environmental protection, access to water and energy, and socio-economic development. Since 2016, the Alstom Foundation has allocated over €600,000 to projects in Italy, within a total annual budget of €2.2 million, supporting 11 projects and benefiting more than 4,200 people.
