ALSTOM has signed an agreement to acquire ER Equipamentos
Elétricos, a specialist manufacturer of air core reactors
and line traps in Brazil. The company, located near Belo
Horizonte (Betim), employs about 100 people and will be renamed
ALSTOM T&D Ltda / Reatores e Bobinas de Bloqueio.

ERs activities, including its extensive range of line
traps for high frequency carrier transmission over high voltage
lines and air core reactors, complement those of ALSTOM T&D
Instrument Transformers both technically and commercially.

The acquisition will also strengthen ALSTOMs presence
on the North American and Latin American markets, where the
newly acquired company, ER, has established a reputation since
1976 as a pioneer and leader in the specialised field of air
core reactors and line traps.

In the last 20 years, ER has supplied more than 1,800 line
traps and 3,200 air core reactors to both the Brazilian and
international markets.

Commenting on the acquisition, Robert Mahler, President of
ALSTOM's T&D sector, said: 'The Americas are fast growing
markets for T&D activities. As part of ALSTOM, the new
company will be well placed to extend its business
opportunities and address an even wider customer base.'
