ALSTOM has been awarded a 52 million euro contract by
Chilean utility ENDESA for a 570 MW turnkey hydro-electric
power plant in Chile. The dam will be built on the river
Bio-Bio at Ralco, situated 600 km south of Santiago.

Besides designing and building the plant, ALSTOM will supply
all the equipment, including two Francis turbine generator
sets. The equipment will come from ALSTOMs factories in
France, Canada and Brazil, and the contract will be supported
by financing from these three countries.

The delivery of equipment is due to begin a year from now
and the project is scheduled for completion in 46 months.

Joseph Chriqui, Senior Vice President of ALSTOMs
Hydro Business said: We are very proud to have won this
order. Ralco is currently the largest hydro power plant being
built in Latin America. ALSTOM is uniquely qualified to supply
turnkey hydro power plants given its ability to design and
manufacture all major equipment in-house, including the hydro
turbines for which the Company is the world leader.

This order follows the successful completion of the
Pehuenche hydro plant and two thermal power plants in Atacama
and Charrua built by ALSTOM for ENDESA Chile. It confirms
ENDESAs confidence in ALSTOM and reinforces the
Companys growing presence in the Chilean energy
industry.
