ALSTOM has been awarded an order of around 130 million
euros, by Shotton CHP Ltd, to construct a 215MW Combined Heat
and Power Plant (CHP) at Shotton Paper Company's mill at
Deeside, Flintshire, in North Wales.

ALSTOM will be responsible for the design and construction
of the turnkey project and will supply the complete plant
including two 75MW gas turbines and one high speed HTM2 type
steam turbine. In addition, ALSTOM will supply two natural
circulation heat recovery steam generators, the air cooled
condenser and export steam facility as well as the plant
control system.

Nick Salmon, President of ALSTOM's Energy Sector said 'We
are extremely pleased to be associated with this project which
will be the tenth turnkey power plant contract for ALSTOM in
the UK managed by our project team at Knutsford.'

Work will commence immediately and the plant will be
completed in mid 2001. This CHP plant will provide
cost-effective process steam and electricity to the Shotton
Paper Mill with any surplus electricity fed to the National
Grid. Shotton CHP Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of the
Eastern Group who will own and operate the CHP.
