In preparation for the opening in July 2001 of the new TGV
Méditerranée line linking Paris and Lyon with the
Mediterranean coast, the SNCF has placed a 230 million Euro
order with ALSTOM for 12 double deck TGVs of the 'TGV Duplex'
type.

These trainsets will be added to the existing fleet of 30
TGV Duplex trains currently in service on the most popular
Paris-Lyon line. They will be identical trainsets, composed of
8 passenger cars between 2 power cars.

Each trainset will provide seating for 545 passengers in
enhanced comfort and will run at 300 kph, to meet the demands
of this Mediterranean service.

ANF Industries will be a partner in the manufacture of the
trains, the first of which will be delivered in September 2001,
and the 12th and final trainset before the end of 2002.

This order continues to demonstrate that high speed rail is
the optimum travel solution within high density corridors
giving passengers unmatched reliability, safety, convenience
and comfort.
