Group TramMet is a consortium of companies formed to undertake
the project on a Finance, Design, Build, Operate and Maintain
(FDBOM) basis. Within this, ALSTOM is responsible for the overall
technical management of the project and the supply of the
electromechanical system including the provision of up to 20
CITADIS light rail vehicles, the signalling and communication
systems, and the traction power supply system. ALSTOM will also
invest equity in the concession company which will be responsible
for the system throughout the design and construction period and
for the subsequent 25 years of operation.

Other members of the consortium are:

  • FCC CONSTRUCCION, COMSA, ACCIONA and NECSO of Spain who
will undertake the civil works plus the provision of the track
    and the overhead catenary.
  • CGEA TRANSPORT of France and SARBUS, SOLER Y SAURET and CGT
of Spain who will operate the system.
  • Bankers BANSABADELL and SOCIETE GENERALE.

The overall budget of the project will be 218 million euros.
The tramways will be built in the ALSTOM factory in Barcelona.
The system, which will link Diagonal with Cornella, Hospitalet,
Sant Joan Despi, Sant Feliu, Sant Boi, Sant Just Desvern and
Esplugues, is scheduled to enter commercial service in 2003. The
line, which will have 35 stops, is expected to carry more than 19
million passengers per year.

Further information

The vehicles, fully air-conditioned, will feature
a full low floor to facilitate access for all passengers, and
will be equipped with ONIX traction and motorised Arpege bogies.
The 30m tramsets will each be equipped with two motorised and one
non-motorised bogie. Passenger capacity will be 215 people per
tramset. The aesthetic design of the tramsets will be specially
