ALSTOM awarded major track maintenance contract in
Mexico

The scope of the contract covers the rehabilitation and
maintenance for a period of 12 years of 600 kilometres of tracks.
The rehabilitation should be completed by 2002. This is the first
major track rehabilitation contract awarded to ALSTOM.

Transportación Ferroviaria Mexicana (TFM) operates
Mexico's Northeast railway and carries around 60 % of the
country's total rail cargo. The majority stake in TFM is held by
Transportación Marítima Mexicana, the largest Latin
American multi-modal transportation and logistics company.

Hamdi Conger, ALSTOM Transport Services Senior Vice President,
declared:

'This  new contract will enable ALSTOM to develop its
operations in Mexico, where the Company already maintains 350
locomotives for several private operators. It also demonstrates
our capacity to offer packages including a comprehensive range of
maintenance services to help operators optimise their businesses
world-wide.
