This project will be carried out within the framework of a
previous contract with the same consortium for Phase 1 of the
Istanbul metro. ALSTOM will receive 100% of the share as its
local partners Albagak and Cengiz have not yet been awarded the
finishing of civil work.

The Sishane extension will add 1.8 km of underground double
track and one metro station. ALSTOM will be responsible for
design, supply and installation of all electromechanical works.
The scope of the works includes ALSTOM’s complete signaling
system including ATC (automatic train control) and ATS (automatic
train supervision), now marketed under the name URBALIS.

The main civil works have already been completed. Construction
work begins October 2001. The extension is scheduled to begin
commercial service by January 2003.

A Phase 2 extension (3 more stations, 3.2 km of double track,
Golden Horn crossing) is currently being tendered through a
separate international tender.

Editor’s notes
As was widely reported, a tunnel collapse recently occurred
between Sehzadebasi and Yenikapi, which is on the same Istanbul
Metro line as the one being extended. These two stops are beyond
Sishane, on that part of the line which is still under
construction. ALSTOM has no connection to these civil works. The
company does intend to tender for the electro-mechanical part of
this further extension.

ALSTOM’s Transport Sector, with sales of 4.4 billion
euros and a 17% market share, is a leading supplier of rolling
stock, signaling, services and railway systems to the rail
industry world-wide.
