ALSTOM has been confirmed as supplier of Switzerland's
Lausanne automatic metro, for a total amount of approximately
135 million euros. This follows a majority vote on 24 November
2002, when the Lausanne metro project was approved by 62% of
Switzerland's Vaud Canton electors.

ALSTOM was chosen as preferred bidder for the supply of the
rolling stock in 1999 and for the supply of the train control
system in 2000.

This new automatic rubber-tyred metro, similar to the one
operating on Paris's Meteor line, will link Ouchy, in the south
of Lausanne, to the district of Epalinges in the north. The
6-km line is due to enter commercial operation at the end of
2007.

Within the scope of this project, ALSTOM will supply:

- the rolling stock, comprising 15 two-car trainsets.

- the UrbalisTM train control system, which will be applied in
its most advanced version. The metro system will therefore be
fully automated, enabling the trains to run automatically
without drivers.

- the power system.

- the track system.

Michel Moreau, President of ALSTOM's Transport Sector, said
: "The Lausanne project is ALSTOM's third major reference in
the promising driverless metro market, after two lines in
Singapore. This new success will be a technological showcase
for ALSTOM, mainly because the of the nature of the metro line,
which involves line gradients of up to 12% at 60 km/h."

This latest order strengthens the companys growing
market share in the urban transport market. Earlier this year
ALSTOM announced that it had been chosen for the supply of
rolling stock for the New York and Washington metros, Santiago
metro Line 4 and Caracas. The company has already equipped the
metro systems of 50 cities, including Paris, Mexico City,
Medellin, Sao Paulo, Fortaleza, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos
Aires.

ALSTOM is the global specialist in energy and transport
infrastructure. The Company serves the energy market through
its activities in the fields of power generation and power
transmission and distribution, and the transport market through
its activities in rail and marine. In fiscal year 2001/02,
ALSTOM had annual sales in excess of 23 billion and
employed 112,000 people in over 70 countries. ALSTOM is listed
on the Paris, London and New York stock exchanges.

ALSTOM's Transport Sector, with annual sales of 4.4
billion, is an internationally leading supplier of rolling
stock, information systems, services and complete turnkey
systems to the rail industry.
