In
Hong Kong, the Mass Transit Railway Corp. (MTR)
has awarded ALSTOM a 12 million euro contract to modify the
signaling and control systems of the Yam O station. The
modifications will be carried out to cater for connection of the
Yam O station to the future Penny's Bay Line.

ALSTOM has previously supplied systems from its URBALIS range
of information solutions for urban rail networks to the MTR,
including the Lantau Airport Railway. MTR cited ALSTOM's strength
as a systems integrator and the need for SACEM train-control
technology as reasons for choosing ALSTOM for the
modifications.

ALSTOM and Hyundai Information Technology (HIT) have signed a
letter of agreement under which ALSTOM will provide URBALIS
signaling and control systems for the new Line 2 of the
Taegu, South Korea, metro. HIT is the main
contractor for the project. ALSTOM's share of the value of the
contract is worth approximately 16.7 million euros.

Spain's Public Works Ministry has awarded a 28.5
million euro contract to a joint venture between ALSTOM Transport
and Revenga Ingenieros for the installation of safety and
communications systems for a new high-speed train line in the
northeast of the country.

ALSTOM is supplying signaling and control systems from its
range of ATLAS information solutions for the new line, which runs
80 kilometers from Zaragoza to Huesca in the Spanish region of
Aragon. The systems conform to Level 1 norms of the European Rail
Traffic Management System, developed to facilitate the
integration of European railways.

With more than 35 product lines and a presence in over 60
countries, ALSTOM's Transport Sector offers cutting-edge
products and services to four distinct types of customers:
urban transit authorities and operators; intercity passenger
rail operators and rolling stock owners; rail freight
operators; and intercity railway infrastructure owners.
ALSTOM's Transport Sector, with 4.4 billion euros in sales in
2001, is among the world's leading suppliers to the railway
industry.
