ALSTOM has been awarded an order for the upgrade of Unit 6
of the Turow Power Plant in Poland. The order, placed by owner
and end-user Elektrownia TUROW S.A., is worth approximately 125
million euros, and is a turnkey assignment for the
modernisation and enhancement of Unit 6 of the Turow Power
Plant in Bogatynia, Poland.
The Turow Power Plant is the major supplier of electrical
energy in south-west Poland, and, with its adjacent mine, is
also one of the major employers in the area. Its rehabilitation
secures valuable employment for approximately 6000 people.
The consortium leader for the supply of the steam turbine
plant will be ALSTOM Switzerland and the major components are
produced by ALSTOM companies in Poland. Foster Wheeler will
supply the Circulating Fluidised Bed boiler and auxiliaries in
the Boiler Island.
ALSTOM has previously been entrusted with the upgrading of
Units 1-5. The first three units are already in commercial
operation, unit 5 is under commissioning, and unit 4 is still
under construction. An excellent technical concept and the good
operating experience from the first upgraded units were the
underlying strengths securing this consequential order for
ALSTOM. Also important was ALSTOM's willingness and ability to
fulfil requirements for local content. 80% of the hardware will
be provided by local Polish companies.
Bernard Lemoine, Managing Director of ALSTOM's Steam Power
Plant Segment says of the order: 'We are delighted that the
customer, Elektrownia TUROW S.A., has decided to exercise the
option for the 6th Unit with ALSTOM. This is a confirmation of
our excellent working relations and high quality of the upgrade
work we have done previously.'
