ALSTOM has been awarded a contract to enhance four steam turbines in Blocks 1 & 2 of the Beznau Nuclear Power Station in Switzerland.  This order includes the installation of an advanced turbine protection and control system. Nordostschweizerische Kraftwerke, a member of Axpo, placed the order, valued at about 7 million euros.

ALSTOM’s scope of supply includes overall project responsibility, the mechanical equipment, including the hydraulics, electrical systems and cabling, and the assembly and commissioning.

The replacement of the existing systems with state-of-the-art turbine protection and control systems will guarantee the plant’s security and reliability. In addition, the high- availability of the four turbo-sets will be ensured in the long-term.

The installation at the Beznau Nuclear Power Station is scheduled for Block 1 during the overhaul outage in 2004 and for Block 2 during the overhaul outage in 2005. This project will contribute to ensuring a reliable power supply in Switzerland.
