The three-unit trains will offer service on a line that is
being extended from its current terminus at Neugraben, south of
Hamburg, to Stade, east of the city. On the Hamburg S-Bahn
network, the 1.2 kV DC power supply is by third rail, while
on the extension, overhead lines will supply the trains the
15 kV AC via the trains’ pantographs.

For this reason, the trains to be renovated and the new trains
will be equipped to operate under both types of power supply. The
42 rebuilt and new dual-voltage trains will be called series
474.3.

Delivery of the trains is planned for March 2006 to August
2007. Passenger service between Hamburg and Stade is to start in
December 2007.

ALSTOM will supply the mechanical equipment from its site at
Salzgitter, and Bombardier Transportation will supply the
electrical equipment from its site in Mannheim.

“We are very glad to implement our S-Bahn extension
strategy in the metropolitan region of Hamburg with these new
dual-voltage vehicles,” said Werner Wojtaschek, spokesman
for the management board of S-Bahn Hamburg.

With more than 35 product lines and a presence in more than
60 countries, ALSTOM's Transport sector offers complete
products and services for new rolling stock, signaling and
electrical and mecanical infrastructure as well as maintenance
and rehabilitation services to four distinct types of

ALSTOM's Transport sector, with sales of €5.1 billion in
financial year 2002-2003, is among the world's leading
