ALSTOM held its annual plenary three day meeting with the
European Works Forum (EWF) in Poland, between 16-18 June. Its
34 members represent ALSTOMs employees in 17 European
countries where the Group has a significant presence.

During this meeting, and as part of ALSTOMs
commitment to pursue constructive dialogue with employee
representatives, internal rules for employee representation
within the EWF, the information and consultation processes and
more generally all aspects of the workings of the EWF, were
discussed. An agreement was reached concerning the consultation
process during this annual plenary meeting.

Following the five meetings with EWF representatives which
have taken place since the beginning of the year, this meeting
was also the occasion to review ALSTOMs situation
in-depth and the challenges the Group is currently facing in
its different Sectors: the sharp downturn of the power
generation market, specific problems in Transport such as in UK
and in the locomotives activity, as well as the difficult
distribution market in the Transmission & Distribution
area.

To adapt its production capacity to its markets and to
reduce its overhead costs, ALSTOM has already discussed with
representatives of the EWF several restructuring plans which
have been fully reviewed during this meeting. These plans
concern close to 5,000 positions in the Power, Transport and
Transmission & Distribution Sectors and in the Paris head
office.

Every possible effort will be made to minimize the impact of
the restructuring on our employees with various measures (early
retirement, outplacement programmes, training...) to be
discussed and implemented locally.
