Why four years? Thats how long it will take to build
the fully automatic, rubber-tired metro in Lausanne.

In order to help the city inform its inhabitants and visitors
about the works progress, which has recently started and
will finish in 2008, ALSTOM will be the main partner of a
communication project put into place by the city.

An information and exhibition area installed under the
Grand-Pont bridge in the city center will be used to promote
and explain the project. A part of the exhibit will be devoted
to ALSTOMs contributions and commitment to the project.
At six strategic spots around Lausanne, information panels will
be set up to allow visitors to have a look at the works
progress.

The Lausanne metro contracts include the supply of 15 metro
trains; a fully automatic, driverless URBALIS metro control
system with video communications via IAGO wave guide; the track
system and power supply.

ALSTOM will also provide Metro Lausanne Ouchy with
systems-engineering support. MLO keeps the responsibility for
overall system integration, and ALSTOM engineers, based in the
customers offices and also in Transport headquarters in
Saint-Ouen, will help them to achieve this task.

The building of the first tunnel for the new metro started on
June 8. Moritz Leuenberger, the Swiss Federal Councilor, came
to officially inaugurate the start of works on June 17. He
congratulated the government of the State of Vaud and the
population for having voted to invest in this new and modern
public transport system.

With more than 35 product lines and a presence in more than
60 countries, ALSTOM's Transport sector offers complete
products and services for new rolling stock, signaling, and
electrical and mechanical infrastructure as well as maintenance
and rehabilitation services to four distinct types of
customers: urban transit authorities and operators; intercity
passenger rail operators and rolling stock owners; rail freight
operators; and intercity railway infrastructure owners.
ALSTOM's Transport sector, with sales of 4.9 billion euros in
financial year 2003-2004, is among the world's leading
suppliers to the railway industry.
