Companhia do Metropolitano de São Paulo, the operator
of the São Paulo metro, has awarded an ALSTOM-led
consortium a contract for the supply, installation and testing
of signaling and control equipment, a medium voltage network,
as well as power supply and auxiliary systems for the extension
of Sao Paulo’s metro line 2 (green line). The value of
this contract is about 42 million euros. ALSTOM’s share
is 64 % of this amount.

Furthermore, ALSTOM will be responsible for the design,
supply and installation of ventilation equipment for 3 new
stations on the extension of Sao Paulo’s metro line 2.
This contract was awarded in a separate bidding process won
exclusively by ALSTOM and is valued at about 4.6 million
euros.

At the present time, line 2 is 7 kilometers long and
operates from Ana Rosa station to Vila Madalena. The extension
of line 2 will be 4 kilometers long, of which 3.9 km are
covered by tunnels. The three new stations will be Chacara
Klabin, Imigrantes and Ipiranga.

With the extension of line 2, there will be connections with
line 1 (blue line) at the stations Paraiso and Ana Rosa and
with the forthcoming extension of line 5 (purple line) at
Chacara Klabin station.

The first 2.9 kilometers of the exension from Ana Rosa to
Imigrantes are planned to be operational in the first half of
2006. The remaining section should be put into service in the
second half of 2006.

Today, 280 000 passengers use metro line 2 (green line) from
Ana Rosa to Vila Madalena every day. With the extension to
Imigrantes station, this number will increase to about 320 000
passengers per day. Once Ipiranga station is in operation, the
global figure is estimated to be 370 000 users per day. ALSTOM
has been a key supplier to Companhia do Metropolitano de
São Paulo since its opening and has so far delivered 654
metro cars for lines 2, 3 and 5.

ALSTOM also provided the signaling equipment and the
operation control centers for all lines.

With more than 35 product lines and a presence in more
than 60 countries, ALSTOM's Transport sector offers complete
products and services for new rolling stock, signaling, and
electrical and mechanical infrastructure as well as
maintenance and rehabilitation services to four distinct
types of customers: urban transit authorities and operators;
intercity passenger rail operators and rolling stock owners;

owners. ALSTOM's Transport sector, with sales of 5.1 billion
euros in financial year 2004-2005, is among the world's
leading suppliers to the railway industry.
