ALSTOM has won a contract worth more than 30 million euros with Lithuanian Power Station to install low-NOx burners and burner management systems at the plant, located in Elektrenai, 50km from Vilnius.

The power station has four 150MW and four 300MW boilers burning gas, heavy fuel oil and orimulsion, which were originally supplied by Russian manufacturer Tagounrog and commissioned during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

ALSTOM will upgrade the burners on six of the boilers, ensuring that the plant meets NOx emission levels in line with the European Unions forthcoming Large Combustion Plant Directive, due for implementation on January 1, 2008. The work will be led by ALSTOMs performance projects unit in Derby, UK.

ALSTOM has designed and installed more than such 350 NOx solution systems on existing power plants worldwide representing about 100 GW of generation.

Petr Brzezina, ALSTOMs General Manager Performance Projects Europe, said: This success further confirms ALSTOMs leadership and market place position in Lithuania for supplying low NOx solutions to meet customer requirements and environmental improvements. This is our fourth major project win to date in this important market.

According to Mr Noreika, General Director of Lithuanian Power Plant: ALSTOM won this contract based on strong commercial and technical capabilities. Their proposal allows us great flexibility and we are looking forward to seeing the plant in action during the next three years.
