ALSTOM has been awarded an order from E.ON UK plc, the company that runs Powergen, to install its boosted overfire air, NOx reduction technology system on to Units 2, 3 and 4 at Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station, located in Nottingham, England.
These units follow on from ALSTOMs upgrade of Unit 1, awarded early 2004, which was the first commercial installation of a boosted overfire air (BOFA) system in the UK and enabled E.ON to achieve NOx emission levels commensurate to those required under the European Unions forthcoming Large Combustion Plant Directive (LCPD), due for implementation on 1 January 2008.
Ratcliffe power station has four 500 MW coal-fired boilers, commissioned during the late 1960s and early 1970s.
ALSTOMs European Director of Performance Projects, Petr Brzezina said: This success further confirms ALSTOMs leadership and hard work in supplying NOx solutions to meet customer requirements and environmental improvements and the confidence the customer has in ALSTOM as a solutions company.
According to John Pacey, Plant Manager of E.ONs Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station: ALSTOM was awarded this contract following the success of its conversion of Unit 1.
