As part of the launch, TfL presented to media a full size
mock up of a tram, in London's emblematic red livery.

The mock up is an ALSTOM CITADIS tram, which was recently
acquired from the city of Montpellier where the trams are in
service, and refurbished and painted at La Rochelle. Perfectly
badged with the ALSTOM logo, it gave Londoners a chance to see
what an ALSTOM-built tram might look like on their streets.

The Cross-River tram scheme would run from North to South of the
capital, from Euston to Waterloo, crossing the Thames river. The
scheme promotes economic regeneration and social inclusion in
parts of the capital that have experienced decades of
underinvestment in transport, creating jobs, sustaining
businesses and improving access to work, education and healthcare
facilities.

It will also improve the transport network by moving people
quickly, comfortably and efficiently across London and relieve
other crowded lines such as the Northern line. It is expected to
carry more than 60 million passengers per year.

Subject to future funding, the tram could be operational by 2016.
ALSTOM will be following the debate and subsequent opportunities
to tender, with interest.
