With a market share of over 80%, what has really made the
difference for ALSTOM is its Citadis model, which stands out on
account of the modular nature of its interior and exterior
design, its passenger capacity and its wireless
power solutions. Built on a proven platform that uses 80%
standard parts, Citadis offers each city the opportunity to
customize their trams exterior style and interior fittings
and to adapt passenger capacity to traffic conditions, by varying
the length of their Citadis between 20 and 40 metres. When it comes to urban integration of the tramway, ALSTOM is
the only manufacturer to have developed a range of power
solutions that do not require overhead cables, thus enabling
cities to preserve their architectural heritage. The
companys APS ground power supply solution, put into
service in Bordeaux in 2003, was chosen this year by the cities
of Angers, Reims and Orleans. As for the Nice, the citys
authorities have opted for a system employing onboard
batteries. To date,
870 Citadis trams have been ordered by
24 cities around the world, 15 of them in
France, and another 30 cities have a tramway project scheduled
for the next 3 years. Tramways are now well on their way to
becoming the urban transport solution of choice because they make
it possible to offer sustainable mobility, to rethink and
re-energize urban space and preserve architectural heritage,
while contributing to city growth. Between now and 2009, ALSTOM
expects to pass the 1,000 mark in terms of Citadis trams sold
across the world. Press contact:Clotilde ProvostTel: + 33 (0)1 41 66 91 43clotilde.provost@transport.alstom.com
