ALSTOM Ferroviaria* is part of a consortium composed of
Astaldi, Ansaldo Trasporti Sistemi Ferroviari, Ansaldobreda,
Torno Internazionale and ATM (Azienda Trasporti Milanesi),
which has been awarded a 500 million euros order for the supply
of the automatic metro system for Milans line 5.
ALSTOMs share is worth about 46 million euros,
representing 12% of the overall amount. Two ALSTOM plants in
Italy, Guidonia (Rome) and Sesto San Giovanni, will be involved
in the project, providing infrastructure and project management
respectively.
We are pleased to participate in the construction of
Line 5 said Emilio Gallocchio, Managing Director of
Alstom Ferroviaria - and to offer our experience for the first
automatic metro in Italy developed through project financing.
ALSTOM is a world leader in the supply of complete urban
transport solutions and has already taken part in the
construction of major metro lines, notably in Singapore,
Lausanne and Washington .
Line 5 will be directly connected with the citys
public transport network. The line will transport 26.000
passengers per day and cover more than 5,6 km. It will comprise
9 stations connecting Garibaldi with Bignami leading towards
the citys northern boundaries (Sesto San Giovanni
direction). It may be extended in the future to the city of
Monza.
