A tramway symbolic of the community it serves
The Le Mans tramway is symbolic of the community that uses it,
both through its expressive livery, which repeats the colours
of the Roman wall, and its elegantly curved appearance. The
interior design has been conceived in a spirit of both sobriety
and congeniality. Its two-coloured seats, with their orange-red
tones, the generous light, thanks to 60% glass lateral
surfaces, and a ceiling embellished with a fresco evoking
aeroplanes, kites, butterflies and birds, constitute an
irresistible invitation to travel.

This customization is makes the most of the modular concept of
CITADIS, which makes it possible to create unique tramways, in
the image of the cities in which they operate.

Le Mans joins the club of cities equipped with
CITADIS

Algiers, Barcelona, Bordeaux, Dublin, Istanbul, Lyon, Le Mans,
Melbourne, Paris, Rotterdam, Tunis... in 10 years, over 25
cities have chosen Alstom technology to equip their tramway
network. A success that can be explained by the many benefits
that CITADIS offers, in a context of exponential urban growth
and strict environmental constraints. Over 1,000 CITADIS
trainsets have been sold across the world since the range was
launched in 1997, 610 of which are currently in operation.
Alstom can thus claim unrivalled experience, with over 95
million kilometres covered, equivalent to 2,300 times the
distance around the earth.

Innovation in the service of passengers and their
environment

Alstom continuously innovates, while keeping two core
considerations in mind: the need to preserve the environment,
while providing passenger comfort. Thanks to its system of
electric propulsion, the tramway represents the non-polluting
mode of transport par excellence, consuming four times less
than a bus and ten times less than a car (in kWh/seated
passenger). As for polluting emissions, their level is twelve
times lower than those of a car. Extremely quiet in operation,
CITADIS is also 90% recyclable at the end of its working life.
In Le Mans, as in all cities in which it is used, the tramway
makes it possible to develop sustainable mobility, while
ensuring genuine quality of service. CITADIS is a space in
which all can co-exist - easily accessible, in particular to
people with reduced mobility. In addition, it allows
architectural heritage to be preserved and enables urban spaces
to be rethought.
