In February 2007, SBB Cargo and Alstom signed an agreement
for the creation of a joint venture on SBB Cargos
industrial site at Biel (Switzerland). This joint venture was
intended to be a new company for the maintenance of locomotive
service vehicles and tank wagons. The launch of the joint
venture was planned for the beginning of 2008. The updated joint venture business plan combining the
workload from SBB Cargo and third parties is not compliant with
Alstoms minimum required level of profitability.
Therefore, the agreement for the creation of the joint venture
could not be finalised. The industrial site of Biel, which employs 150 people,
remains an SBB Cargo entity. Alstom is open to explore other
options for possible partnership.
