Alstom, in consortium with Crowder Construction Company, has been awarded a contract by Covanta Hillsborough Inc. to supply air quality control systems for the expansion of Hillsborough County, Floridas resource recovery facility located near Tampa, Florida.
Alstom will supply a spray dryer absorber for acid gas control including sulphur dioxide and hydrochloric acid, and a fabric filter for particulate removal, in addition to associated equipment. Crowder Construction will be responsible for erection.
The facility currently processes 1,200 tons of municipal solid waste per day, while generating 29 MW of energy that is sold to the local electrical utility. The facility expansion will add the capabilities of processing 600 tons per day of municipal solid waste while generating an additional 17 MW of energy. The project is scheduled for completion in February 2009.
This is the second project Alstom has been awarded by Covanta Energy, Inc. over the past two years, having previously supplied air pollution control equipment for the expansion of Lee County, Floridas Solid Waste Resource Recovery Facility.
Alstom has been supplying air quality control systems to Covanta Energy Inc. since 1987 and supports its commitment to providing proven and environmentally sound waste-to-energy facilities for municipal waste management.
