Alstom Hydro has been awarded a contract worth approximately 92 million
euro by CESTE (Consortium of SUEZ, CVRD, Alcoa and Camargo Correa) for
the supply of electro-mechanical equipment to the 1088 MW Estreito
hydropower plant, located on the Tocantins River bordering Maranhão and
Pará states in Brazil.
Alstoms scope of supply covers 6 X 136 MW generators, busbar, hydro-mechanical & lifting equipment as well as erection supervision. All equipment will be manufactured in the companys facility in Taubaté, Brazil. First unit is scheduled for delivery in June 2010.
Estreito is one of the most important projects to be implemented in Brazil as the country needs, on average, 3 GW per year to maintain its current level of development. Once completed, it is expected to spur economic and social development in the region.
Commenting on the award, Philippe Cochet, President of Alstom Hydro, said: It is encouraging to see large hydro projects are once again getting the stamp of approval in Brazil. I believe well planned and executed hydropower plants contribute to meeting the nations energy needs and renewables targets. This order also confirms Alstoms long-standing commitment to the Brazilian market.
