The trams are currently being built at Alstoms La
Rochelle plant in France and they will begin to arrive in
Dublin early next year for deployment on the Green Line. As the
new trams enter service on the Green line, the existing 14
trams currently maintained will be transferred to the Red Line.

Alstom supplied and maintains the existing fleet of 40 trams in
service on the network since 2004 and has just completed an
extension programme to increase the Red Line trams from 30m to
40m, providing 40% extra capacity, in response to the growth in
passenger numbers.

Approximately 90 people are employed by Alstom Transport in
Dublin, maintaining the trams and infrastructure of the LUAS
network at the Sandyford and Red Cow depots.

To date, 1,166 Citadis have been ordered by 29 cities around
the world, and over 60 cities have a tramway project scheduled
for the next few years. Tramways are enjoying undeniable
success because they make it possible to develop sustainable
mobility, to rethink and re-energise urban space, and to
preserve architectural heritage, while contributing to city
growth
