Alstom's role in the consortium is to supply all traction
equipment as well as the passenger information system. All of
this equipment will be supplied by Alstom's Ridderkerk site in
the Netherlands. The manufacture and assembly of the cars will
take place at Bombardier's site in Villeneuve (Switzerland).
The trains will each measure 62.7 m in length, with a low floor
for easier passenger access as well as 171 seats. The passenger
spaces will be air-conditioned and afford excellent visibility
thanks to the large panoramic windows. Maximum speed is 160
km/h.
Named Lötschberger by BLS, these trains will
round out the regional transport fleet in the Lötschberg
region. Delivery will take place in phases between September
2009 and February 2010.
*The contract represents CHF 67 million in total, including
over CHF 20 million for Alstom.
