Alstom, responsible for project management and coordination,
refurbished 38 trains of the 76 cars of the metro system. It
handled the modernization of bogie rolling systems and doorway
mechanisms, the overhaul of the traction engines and
certification of the trains at Transpole. Safra worked on the
interior of the trains (fittings, carpeting, seating and
panelling) as well as some external equipment (high and low
voltage cabling, doors and painting of the bodies).

Each trainset can carry 200 passengers (50 seated and 150
standing) travelling at a maximum speed of 80 km/h. Over 90
million passengers use VAL every year, representing nearly two
thirds of passenger traffic.
