With the arrival of new low cost actors and emerging new
markets, Alstom and its partners are subject to an increasingly
competitive environment. The rail industry has to face strong
pressure on prices as well as more stringent contract
conditions and quality requirements. More than ever, Alstom and
its suppliers must be able to anticipate the needs of a rapidly
changing market to make proposed solutions more relevant.
Shared success depends on radical improvement of quality,
greater flexibility of delivery schedules and a strenghtening
of strategic partnerships with suppliers. To achieve this,
Alstom favours joint innovation and development where necessary
and useful for its clients and encourages suppliers to enhance
standardisation of high performance industrial and logistical
solutions when they respond to requirements raised.

One of Alstoms key partnership-policy tools is the
Leading Partners 150 (LP150) program. Launched in June 2007,
the program currently includes 54 suppliers, which are selected
after evaluation of their operational performance, capacity for
innovation, financial health and, above all, potential for
forging a mutually profitable partnership with Alstom. Regular
contact between Alstom and each partner makes it possible to
share an understanding of markets and R&D approaches and to
review joint action plans for boosting competitiveness.

Sustainable development now plays a growing role in
Alstoms purchasing policy. The company asks its
suppliers to commit to a responsible-purchasing charter
designed to respect all ethical principles, especially with
regard to child labour, health and safety conditions and
environmental protection. Alstom has also set up evaluation
systems and audits to measure supplier performance in this
area.
