The Istanbul tramway system is the first to include Citadis
trams fitted with the new Ixège bogie. This bogie, which
was unveiled for the first time at the annual UITP
(International Union of Public Transport) Congress in Vienna in
June 2009, makes it possible to combine a tight radius of
curvature with low floors. This means that the Citadis trams
will be able to run on the tracks of the existing Istanbul line
which links Zeytinburnu to Kabatas.

The first tram will be delivered in August 2009. The next
35 Citadis will be delivered at a rate of four per month.
The tramways, in linked double units and fitted with an
integral low floor, will each be able to carry up to 500
passengers along this 14 km line. It will serve 24 stations
throughout the historical Golden Horn district of the city. The
line is very popular with both local residents and tourists,
and is used by 250,000 people every day.
