Alstom and CASCO, one of Alstoms joint ventures in China, have signed a contract with Shentong, the owner and operator of Shanghai metro network, to supply the 1st phase of Shanghai metro Line 13 with advanced signalling system. The contracts total value amounts to 22.5 million.
According to the terms of the contract, Alstom is in charge of providing equipment and services of ATC subsystem, which is the core of Alstoms Urbalis solution. Project teams from Alstom and CASCO will execute the project.
Shanghai Metro Line 13s 1st phase will be equipped with Alstoms Urbalis solution, an advanced communication-based train control (CBTC) system that integrates network communications with data transmission by radio. It will significantly increase the capacity of the lines over traditional technology whilst at the same time ensuring optimal safety, flexible operations and heightened passenger comfort.
As an important metro line, running across the city downtown from Northwest to Southeast, Line 13s 1st phase is 16.4 km in length with 14 stations and 24 metro trains.
We are committed to building strong partnership and fostering localization in China, and we have secured numerous signaling contracts in China through working effectively with our Chinese JV CASCO, stated Dominique Pouliquen, SVP, Alstom Transport Asia Pacific and Alstom China Country President. Shanghai Line 13 is a significant contract for Alstom, as it marks Alstoms 20th contract worldwide of supplying our cutting- edge Urbalis solution to a metro line. We are proud that we have become one of the most preferred suppliers of our customers both in China and worldwide.
In April 2010, Alstom successfully commissioned its Urbalis solution for the 36-km Shanghai Line 10, which was launched for the World Expo. Alstom has also recently put in service the Urbalis solution for the Sao Paulo Line 2 extension, with a contract signed in July 2008 with CMSP, the operator of São Paulo metro, to supply a fully automated system for the Sao Paulo Metro lines 1, 2 and 3. This service proven solution is also adopted by Lausanne Metro Line 2 in Switzerland, Beijing Airport Express Line, Beijing Metro Line 2, Shanghai Line 10 & 12, Singapores North-East line and Singapores Circle Line, the worlds largest driverless heavy metro line.
