Following an international invitation to tender, Casa Transports en Site Aménagé SA (Casa Transports SA), the public company charged with building Casablancas tramway network, has awarded two contracts to Alstom totalling some 11 million. The contracts involve the installation of railway signalling and electrical power supply systems for the first line of the tramway network currently under construction.
Alstom will be responsible for designing, constructing, installing and putting in service the signalling for the line and its depot as well as 23 electrical substations and substation buildings, which will supply power to the catenary system. The work is scheduled for completion in October 2012, with the network projected to begin service two months later in December. The 30-km line will cross the city from east to west and carry up to 250,000 passengers daily.
These contracts are a testament to Moroccan officials confidence in Alstoms urban transport equipment and solutions. In November 2009, CASA Transports SA opted to acquire 37 Citadis double-unit tramsets manufactured by Alstom, while 22 Citadis double-unit tramsets destined for the future Rabat-Salé network are currently being manufactured and delivered.
