IMMA Indústria Metalúrgica e Mecânica da Amazônia, the first capital goods industry in Brazils North region, the result of a joint venture between Alstom and Bardella, has already qualified over 2,000 employees since 2008 through the Guaporé Project, a professional qualification program developed to train local workers. To expand its coverage and benefits even further, IMMA will start enrolling for the fifth class today, September 19.
This edition will have 150 positions available, 50 for boiler operators, 40 for welders, 20 for mechanical assemblers, 20 for jet and painting operators, and 20 for oxyacetylene cutting professionals. Candidates must be older than 18 and live in the state of Rondônia.
The project, developed in partnership with SENAI, has trained about 85% of all professionals in the production areas of IMMA, which represents about 500 people currently. Of the 120 people graduated in the fourth class, 100 have already been hired, says Gustavo Almeida, Human Resources manager at IMMA.
The program will qualify professionals to work in some of the most important infrastructure projects in Brazil. In addition to the Santo Antônio and Jirau hydro plants, located on the Madeira river, Brazils North region will have the Belo Monte and Teles Pires plants, and is also a base for shipping equipment to other locations in Latin America. The regions production capacity tends to increase even further, creating more opportunities to local professionals.
The enrollments for the fifth class of Guaporé Project must be made by September 22 at Escola SENAI Padre Marcelo Bertolusso, located on Rua 13 de Setembro, 1.678, Areal neighborhood. More information on 3224-6766.
The process will involve an individual test and group dynamics. The course lasts three months. The projects classes are given at SENAI, and one of the qualification steps is carried out at the institutions Mechanical-Metal Workshop-School, built exclusively for the professional development for the industry. In addition to technical qualification, the Guaporé Project promotes the transfer of industrial culture and technology. Professionals from Alstom, Bardella and IMMA participate actively in the program, giving classes and lectures to students.

With the purpose of subsidizing hydroelectric projects in Brazils northern region, through the provision of hydromechanical and lifting equipment for the projetcs of this sector in Amazonia, Alstom, world leader in power and transport infrastructure, has associated to Bardella, a traditional domestic capital goods company with on-demand engineering, for the construction of Indústria Metalúrgica e Mecânica da Amazônia - IMMA. With an investment of R$ 90 million, the works, delivered in March 2010, are located in Porto Velho, State of Rondônia, and have 235 thousand square meters of total area and 33 thousand square meters of built-up area. Equipped with operating machines, boilermaking area, gritblasting and painting, the factory has a lifting capacity of 130 tons and production of 12 thousand tons a year.
