The first stone in Morocco’s new high-speed train track was laid at the Tangiers station on 29 September, in the presence of French President Nicolas Sarkozy and King Mohammed VI of Morocco.

Starting in December 2015, the 220-mile line will link Tangiers to Casablanca, passing through the capital of Rabat, at a speed of 200 mph. Alstom Transport, which will provide 14 Duplex high-speed train sets, was represented by Henri Poupart-Lafarge. In December 2010, Alstom signed a contract worth about 400 million euros with Morocco’s rail operator, the Office National des Chemins de Fer (ONCF).

The high-speed service will cut the travel time from the current level of 4 hours and 45 minutes to 2 hours and 20 minutes, while carrying from 6 to 8 million passengers a year* the first years of revenu service.
