Friday 23 November 2012 saw Alstom UK Transport achieve awards for outstanding fleet reliability.
The ceremony, organised by industry magazine Modern Railways, awarded a Golden Spanner to the Class 458s, as the most reliable train in the UK in collaboration with Stagecoach South West Trains (SSWT). Contributing towards the victory Alstoms Parts and Modernisation team recently achieved 100% on time in full (OTIF) delivery of spare parts for the fleet.
Terence Watson, Transport Managing Director UK & Ireland, said: It's been a long road to get our Alstom-built trains to the position they rightly deserve to be in, but the main credit must go to South West Trains and Porterbrook. We just supported a great team - but I think we did an excellent job too!"
For fastest incident recovery (based on delay minutes per incident) Bronze Spanners were awarded to the Alstom-built Great Western Class 180s and ScotRail Class 334s.
The annual Golden Spanner Awards recognise improvements in train reliability across the UK rail industry. The awards are based on statistical data and are regarded across the industry as being an accurate assessment of fleet reliability. Different classes of trains operating throughout the network are ranked on the distance they cover between technical faults by the Association of Train Operating Companies National Fleet Reliability Improvement Programme.
