Alstom joined with partners Angel Trains, the Department for Transport, Network Rail and Virgin Rail at a special press event to mark the successful and early completion of the 11-car Pendolino project. The fleet is now 574 cars.
The event took over Platform 16 at Euston Station and featured speeches from all of the involved companies, including one from Terence Watson, Managing Director of Transport for the UK & Ireland.
This is all about collaboration and the successful use of technology in the UK, said Terence.
We now have the largest single fleet of tilting trains in the world and weve also left a lasting legacy of skills, investment and employment.
He went on to point out that Alstom has 800 people working on the West Coast and have invested Euro 40m in its Traincare Centres recently, and had also developed a major supply chain of 150 organisations that share Alstoms can do attitude.
Also attending from Alstom on the day were Tim Bentley, Jacques De-Carne (who came over from Savigliano specially for the event) Jason Rowbottom, Mike Hulme, Lee Kinsey and Chris Waggett.
But it was Pendolino 390157 one of the four new 11-car Pendolinos that was the real star of the show.
