They will be manufactured in Alstom Spain´s industrial centre in Santa Perpetua (Barcelona)
Alstom has unveiled the design of the Nottingham tramway, which will be manufactured in Alstom Spain´s installations in Barcelona as of September 2012.
The industrial site of Santa Perpetua (Barcelona) will be in charge of manufacturing and commissioning the new vehicles, which will circulate in this English city starting in 2014. In total, 22 units of the Citadis model will be manufactured, each with a length of 32.6m, 57 seats and a passenger capacity of 200 during peak times.
Alstom Transport´s design centre has personalised this fleet of vehicles which will also entail the latest technology for passenger information and access for passengers with reduced mobility. The driver´s cabin has also undergone modifications to adapt it to the British traffic systems.
To date, 1,600 Citadis units have been sold that operate in 36 cities worldwide, amongst them a large number of Spanish cities which have tramways such as Madrid, Tenerife, Murcia and Jaen.
Since their launch, the Citadis has become a reference for urban transport, offering sustainable and modern transport solutions in harmony with their architectural surroundings. Currently, 60% of tramways circulating in Spain belong to this product range and have been manufactured in Santa Perpetua.
Alstom´s Industrial Site in Santa Perpetua (Barcelona)
Alstom Spain´s industrial site in Santa Perpetua has been in charge of manufacturing the entire range of Alstom trains running in Spain and of those circulating in more than a dozen cities worldwide. The facilities in Barcelona supplied the high speed train which run on the Madrid-Seville line, the regional lanzadera trains (intercity trains which run on the high speed train tracks and operate at 250km/h), half of the modern commuter trains Civia, the driverless metro in Barcelona and the majority of the tramways which circulate in Spain.
As far as exports are concerned, one can highlight the cars for the London and Washington metro systems as well as the tramways in Rabat, Oran and Constantine. This year, Santa Perpetua will be supplying all cars for the suburban transport systems in Santo Domingo, Lima and Panama. Currently, 90% of production is destined to export markets.
The plant in Santa Perpetua employs 600 people and is home of an R&D and engineering centre for the development of new rolling stock projects. Furthermore, it seeks to become an export reference within the Alstom Group.
