Alstom announced today that it has been honoured with an award for 'Growth Strategy Excellence' in recognition of its outstanding achievements in the field of air quality control systems (AQCS) at the 2012 Middle East Environment Industry Meet held in the United Arab Emirates.

Hosted by leading market analysts Frost & Sullivan (F&S) the ceremony featured nine award categories. Award winners were chosen following detailed market research undertaken by F&S experts, who examined industries working in air pollution control, solid waste management and water and wastewater services across the rapidly developing Middle East.

It is a great privilege for Alstom to receive this honour from F&S, said Sylvain Hijazi, Alstom's UAE Country President. At Alstom we pride ourselves on working closely with our customers to meet their needs and deliver the cleanest power and industrial solutions. That is particularly true here in the Middle East, where over many years we have developed local partnerships to assist in the economic growth of the region whilst also raising environmental standards.

Alstom, which boasts the biggest installed base in air pollution control globally, with more than 400GW in power applications and 2,500 gas cleaning industrial units, has worked extensively for both the power generation and aluminium industries on AQCS projects throughout the Arabian Peninsula.

At the Emal al Taweelah project in the UAE which will be the world's single largest aluminium smelter complex - Alstom has supplied Gas Treatment Centres (GTCs) and Fume Treatment Centres (FTCs) to radically mitigate and reduce SOx, fluorides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and tar emissions.

In UAE, Alstom has also supplied environmental control products for the upgrade of Dubals potlines 1-3 cleaning over 134,000 tonnes per year of aluminium production. In Saudi Arabia, Alstom's AQCS expertise is demonstrated in both the Shoaiba III and Rabigh power stations, where the latest Electrostatic Precipitators (ESP) and Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) systems were fitted. Alstom is also installing FGD systems at the Marafig power plants in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.

This award from F&S acknowledges that Alstom has a firm footprint across the peninsula, born out of years of working on the ground and building relationships throughout the Middle East, summarised Nader Abdellatif, Country President for Saudi Arabia & Yemen. Our commitment to our local partners here stretches back a long time, and will continue long into the future, because we are part of the push to provide strong, sustainable and diverse growth.

With a broad portfolio of environmental products, Alstom offers wet, dry or seawater FGDs, dry scrubbing, fluoride recovery, particle control, mercury reduction or nitrogen oxide-reducing Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). With many of its options providing for low energy, low water or even chemical-free operation, Alstom presents the Middle East with cost-effective and reduced-input environmental control solutions.
