A contract worth over 100 million in India

Alstom has been awarded a contract worth over 100 million by GVK Power and Infrastructure Ltd to equip the 850 MW Ratle hydropower plant, which will be commissioned in 2017. The contract includes the supply of 4 Francis turbines of 205 MW each, and one Francis turbine of 30 MW. This contract is booked in the second quarter of the current fiscal year.

All equipment will be manufactured at Alstoms Vadodara facility in Gujarat, one of the companys largest hydro manufacturing hubs worldwide. The state-of-the-art facility has all the necessary resources to accommodate the growing hydro demands in India.

Patrick Ledermann, Managing Director & Vice Chairman, Alstom India, said: This contract is a testimony to the quality of the long standing relationship built over the last 15 years by Alstom and GVK. Alstom India is committed to provide sustainable and emission-free solutions for the development of Indiasclean power generation capacity. We are happy to be supporting the countrys plan to further incorporate renewable energy into its energy mix.

Located on the Chenab River, Ratle is Alstoms first major project in the Kishtwar district. This is also currently the largest power project being set up in the state of Jammu & Kashmir which faces an ever-increasing power demand.

With almost 150 GW of exploitable hydro-potential as shown by the assessment made by Central Electricity Authority1 (CEA), India ranks 5th in the world. India is also the second fastest growing economy worldwide and the 6th largest energy consumer, accounting for 3.4% of global energy consumption.

1 CEA is the statutory body responsible for the technical coordination and supervision of programmes for the national electricity supply and is also entrusted with a number of statutory functions under the Minister of Power, Government of India.
