Alstom has welcomed 17 new mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering graduates who will work amongst its UK power generation, electrical grid and rail systems activities.

All 17 went through a rigorous selection process before joining the Graduate Development Programme, with eight joining Power in Rugby and Ashby-de-la-Zouch, six Grid in Stafford and four going into Transport based in Preston and Wolverhampton. In total the company now employs 29 Graduate trainees across the UK.

Art Gertner, one of the Transport graduates, said: I chose the graduate programme with Alstom as I was looking for a position in a real industry that would provide me with hands-on engineering experience. I successfully gained a graduate position with another organisation, but chose to join Alstom because of its reputation.

I come from Italy and graduated from Cranfield University; the reason I chose to join Alstom was because of the strong relationships that the company has with the university. I knew about Alstom and what they did throughout my time studying and so I was keen to apply for a trainee position when I graduated. I was very attracted to the companys global opportunities, said Ilaria De Puri, a Power graduate based in Ashby-de-la-Zouch.

Alstoms Graduate Development Programme provides the opportunity for young engineers to gain experience of the business through key placements across the organisation.  Over a two-year programme, trainees undertake a selection of 3-6 month placements to provide a thorough awareness and understanding of Alstoms global activities.

The companys graduate trainees are supported by a dedicated mentor to provide guidance throughout the scheme and provide a clear route towards achieving chartered status and becoming engineers of the future.
