Located in Taubate, the first Global Technology Centre (GTC) from Alstom in Latin America gets one of its first equipment: a tank weighing which has approximately 8.5 m high, 9.5 long, 40 tons of weight and ability to 250,000 litters of water. The tank is one of the equipment that will be used in Research and Development activities for solutions related to plants equipped with Kaplan turbines.
When the circulation pumping system is activated, the tank is filled and the water inside has its weight and temperature measured and also the time spent to filled. From these data, it is possible to calculate the flow of water through the circuit, compared to the values measured by the test platform, allowing adjustments to the actual condition of measuring with high accuracy. Simulations like this will be made constantly in laboratory tests of GTC in order to identify opportunities for improvement and technological advances to keep Alstom and Brazil at the forefront of the market of equipment for hydropower plants.
