The Supplier Electromechanical Voith Group and Alstom began producing one of the milestones of its participation on the Brazilian hydropower market. Alstom's factory, in Taubaté (SP), is producing the largest wheel Francis for hydroelectric plants in Latin America, surpassing the dimensions developed for Tucuruí and Itaipu. The equipment that will be used in the Teles Pires plant, under construction on the border between the states of Mato Grosso and Pará, have more than 260 tons, 5 meters in height and 8.77 meters in diameter. All stages of engineering, manufacturing, erection and commissioning will totalize 38 months.
Because it is the largest wheel ever produced locally, has major challenges of internal and external logistics. Four other rotors will be manufactured for this project, which will generate a total of 1,820 MW to the Brazilian electricity market.
