Knoxville, TN – July 23, 2013 – Alstom and United Conveyor Corporation (UCC) today announced an alliance agreement to jointly provide new emission control systems for coal-fired power plants in North America and Europe. These systems would combine the two companies’ respective expertise in air quality control systems (AQCS) and dry sorbent injection, thereby simplifying customer efforts to comply with stringent emission control regulations.
“Through our work with some of the world’s largest utilities, Alstom understands the growing need for power plants to satisfy complex, multi-pollutant emission control regulations,” according to David Elkins, Vice President of sales for Alstom’s Environmental Control Systems business. “By partnering with UCC, we are bringing together two complementary technologies and offering customers a streamlined approach to meeting regulatory requirements. At the same time, we are providing the ease of management that comes with single source accountability in addition to guaranteed system performance.”
Dan Charhut, Vice President, Sales and Technology at UCC added, “Alstom offers over a century of power industry expertise and an excellent reputation for successfully executing their customers’ air quality control projects. UCC in parallel has over 90 years of experience and an equally respected reputation for leading dry sorbent injection technology. By coordinating efforts, our two companies are co-managing risk and guaranteeing the most cost-effective solution for our customers.”
The joint Alstom-UCC offering is applicable to any European or North American power generation project requiring the use of dry sorbent injection to curb emissions of SO2, SO3 and HCl, in concert with electrostatic precipitators, fabric filters, selective catalytic reduction units, wet or dry scrubbers or other air quality control technologies.
