Referred to sometimes as Mr Nasty because of his strict timekeeping and mobile phone use regime; Rainer Lueoend, site manager at Carrington Power Station, had the opportunity to show a more generous side to his character during the festive season. Money raised from the late fine system he implemented at site, to the tune of over £2,800, has been donated to a variety of community groups in Partington.
Representatives from the groups gathered at Partington Parish Council (PC) offices to receive their cash donations earlier this week, with the money earmarked for Christmas parties and festive celebrations.
The groups attending included:
Screaming Wheels
Little Oaks Nursery
Adult Salsa
EngAGE over 50s
Irlam Boxing Club
Playaway at St Marys Church
Partington AFC
Charisma Stars
Partington Meet and Eat
Partington PC Christmas party and lights
Partington PC Senior Citizens Bingo
Cllr James Clare Chair of Partington PC, who received £500 on behalf of the parish council for their Christmas Party and festive lights, said: We cant believe how generous the workers at site have been to donate such a substantial amount to our local community groups at this time of year. It will certainly be a merry Christmas in Partington.
There was a £200 donation to Playaway, the parent and toddler group at St Marys Church, with representatives from site dropping into their Christmas party to present the money. Irene Jones, who runs Playaway with Cheryl Malcolm said: This donation was a welcome surprise to us and went towards providing food and drinks at the party and a gift from Santa Claus for each child.
Rainer Lueoend, site manager for the Alstom and DF Energy teams building the power station, said: We appreciate that money can be scarce at this time of year so we wanted to spread the cash donated from Carrington Power Station staff around the community. We would like to thank the employees and our contractors for their generosity.
