Today Alstom-TMH inaugurated the modernized compressed air station at the NEVZ plant, the largest Russian manufacturer of mainline and industrial electric locomotives, owned by Transmashholding (TMH) and based in Novocherkassk. The ceremony took place in the presence of Jean-Maurice Ripert, the Frances Ambassador to Russia. This modernization project, launched on Alstoms initiative and in the framework of the lean manufacturing, guarantees to NEVZ and Alstom-TMH joint ventures based on it, the energy and cost saving at the level of 25%. The project was implemented under the energy service contract between NEVZ and FENICE RUS, one of Russian subsidiaries of the EDF (Electricite de France) company.

The energy service contract (ESCO) is the innovative instrument that makes possible for a plant to modernize its energy system without investing its own resources: important cost saving obtained due to the modernization allows paying the energy service company without any other investment.

Philippe Pegorier, Country President of Alstom in Russia, says: "Based on local teams, Alstom supports TMH in the transition to a modern and high-tech industry. It is our strategic choice to become local and we are still stuck to. Our partnership is mutually beneficial since it not only opens the local market to Alstom, but also enhances TMHs portfolio and manufacturing processes.

The NEVZ plant is hosting 2 Alstom-TMH joint ventures, an R&D engineering center TRTrans and RailComp JV which specializes in production of primary rolling stock components (traction system, bogies, etc.). Since the creation of the partnership, Alstom-TMH have jointly developed several innovative products, including passenger locomotive EP20 with speed capacity up to 200 km/h, which is currently the fastest in Russia; 2ES5 freight alternative current locomotive, first in Russia with asynchronous motors.
