Spanish Transport Minister, Ana Pastor, inaugurates the new Alstom Transport headquarters and signalling laboratory in Madrid

Alstoms new offices in Madrid were inaugurated in presence of the Spanish Transport Minister, Ana Pastor, on 25 June. The new 5,500 m2 site hosts Alstom Transports corporate headquarters and head offices in Spain, as well as its signalling centre. At present, 450 employees are based there. Alstom Transport employs around 2,000 people in Spain, who work in Alstoms four activities: trains, services, systems (including infrastructure) and signalling. The signalling laboratories have upgraded their facilities to host new international projects.

The site is one of the Alstom Groups signalling solution & development Excellence Centres that coordinate projects and develop solutions worldwide. This centre will expand its workforce in 2014 by hiring 150 highly qualified engineers and technicians. 

At the inauguration ceremony, Antonio Moreno, President of Alstom in Spain, noted that Alstom in Spain has helped to modernize the Spanish railway industry with the introduction of unique pioneering technology and products. Some examples of this include high-speed trains, state-of-the-art trams, driverless metros, third rail signalling projects and latest-generation ERTMS2 signalling systems. All these technologies were first introduced to the country by Alstom Transport. underlined Moreno.

Andreas Knitter, Alstom Transport Senior VP for Europe highlighted the countrys importance for the Group: As a market, Spain has one of the longest traditions and brightest futures in rail transport and benefits from an international capacity of Alstom Transport Spains teams which manage signalling, maintenance, electrification and train manufacturing projects throughout the world.
