Alstoms UK signalling joint venture Signalling Solutions Ltd (SSL) has been awarded a contract worth 54 million by Network Rail to deliver a signalling system for Crossrail East Anglia section.
The contract covers the design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the signalling control system, using Alstoms industry-leading Smartlock interlocking technology.
The work will cover the Pudding Mill Lane Junction on the Great Eastern Main Line in the east of London, through to Shenfield in Essex. With preliminary work already underway, the project is due for completion in August 2018.

SSL is a 50-50 joint venture company formed by Alstom Transport and Balfour Beatty Rail. Launched in October 2007, SSL offers to UK and Ireland the signalling products and systems supplied by the parent companies, including Alstoms Smartlock interlocking, Atlas train controls for ERTMS projects and Urbalis train control systems for mass transit projects as well as Iconis traffic management technology.
SSL is responsible for providing signalling renewals and enhancements as primary supplier in three of eight geographical regions in the UK; Central East, Great Western Inner and Great Western Outer and is the secondary supplier in four geographical regions; Scotland, Central West, Wales and Western and Kent and Anglia.
Crossrail is Europe's largest infrastructure project. Stretching from Reading and Heathrow in the west, across to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east, the new railway will cover over 100km of track including 21km of new twin-bore rail tunnels and 10 new stations.
